TRAITORIA, CAPITAL OF THE STATE OF BETRAYAL, (The Daily Whatever Press)—TWO DAYS before an election that could decide who runs the United States Senate, Rep. Haley Stevens, a Democrat, pointed a phone at her own face from inside her car and endorsed the fucking Republican.
“I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate,” she said. “I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign.”
Seems like everyone who smelt a traitorous demon weasel was correct?
Some quick history, since Stevens seems to have misplaced hers. She lost the August 4 Democratic primary to Abdul El-Sayed by less than a point, 48.45% to 47.55%, a margin of about 13,800 votes. She lost it with roughly $62 million in outside spending behind her, nearly $30 million of it from AIPAC, which is more than AIPAC had ever spent on a single candidate in a single race. She had a 9-to-1 edge in outside money and still lost. Then she conceded, promised to support the nominee, and did.
For about three months.
The $1,000 ad that broke her
What finally did it was an ad. On October 24, Cenk Uygur’s Rebellion PAC rolled out an online spot in which a couple in a grocery store say they have to set money aside “for killing Palestinians.” “Why the fuck do we have to pay for all of this?” one of them asks. Then a voiceover says “Mike Rogers is for they/them” over photos of Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Bezalel Smotrich. “Abdul El-Sayed is for you.”
I’m Jewish. I’ve called Gaza a genocide in print. In 1982, when I was 12, Israeli army recruiters visited my Hebrew school, and I was the only kid who refused to sign up. Nobody is going to mistake me for an AIPAC guy. And that ad is fucking garbage. Jewish leaders said tying your grocery bill to the Jewish state evokes antisemitic tropes about Jewish financial influence, and they’re right. Using “they/them” as a punch line, in an ad that claims to be on my side? From the bottom of my American heart, fuuuuuuuuck yoooooou!
